Is this trip right for you?

You will enjoy this trip if you love to be by, on, and in the water. Boat rides, snorkelling, wading rivers and pools are a part of this trip. You are someone who is active and eagerly try new things. You are a traveller, not a tourist, and are okay with a few exciting public bus trips that see you spending a few hours chatting with locals and appreciating the landscapes you pass. You’re active, fit, and ready to take on several hours of hiking around ancient ruins, up a still-steaming volcano or through a confining cave system. You’re eager to get up early in anticipation of today’s new experiences rather than catch those extra winks because you’re here to explore. You’ll get in some relaxation later. Please see Our Style for more of what to expect on our trips.

Itinerary Overview

Day 1: Meet your fellow adventurers and tour leader at 6 pm at the joining hotel in Playa Del Carmen.

Day 2: Early departure on two different buses takes us over the border to Belize City, and from there, a speedboat to Caye Caulker. You have arrived in Paradise.

Day 3: All day snorkelling adventure including lunch and rum punch (after the last snorkel site). What better way to experience the Caribbean, but on a boat enjoying the sunshine, warm water and sea life!

Day 4: A midday boat will see us back in Belize City, then a shorter ride on local transport through the capital of Belmopan, then on to the adventure centre of San Ignacio!

Day 5: ATM Caves – this is it! The #1 activity to do in Belize. Cross rivers, swim through caverns and see exactly what lies in a Mayan Sacrificial Chamber.

Day 6: An early morning departure sees us crossing the border into Guatemala and taking in a guided tour of Tikal, then after lunch we’ll make our way to the cute and colourful town of Flores, Guatemala.

Day 7:  After breakfast we set out for Rio Dulce, but not before taking a short detour to Finca Paraiso to relax in a beautiful, secluded hot waterfall with a cold pool.

Day 8: After visiting the Castillo de San Felipe for photos of the fort and Lake Izabal, we travel down the Rio Dulce River, through its canyon, to the Caribbean Sea and Livingston. We return to our island accommodations for the night.

Day 9: An early morning departure in our private bus takes us through a variety of landscapes to Lake Atitlan.

Day 10: A tour of Lake Atitlan, taking in Santa Catarina, Santiago, San Juan and Jaibalito.

Day 11: A morning departure takes us for a two-hour drive to Antigua.  After an orientation of the City by your tour leader, you will have the afternoon to spend exploring the city further or perhaps scheduling a hike up the active Pacaya Volcano.

Day 12: Tour ends for those finishing in Antigua, or a free day for those continuing on to San Jose, Costa Rica!
